Editor,
I wish to respond to a story that appeared in The New Times, of November, 13, titled: "Media urged to be champions for safe motherhood.”
Apart from the ability to champion safe motherhood, the media have a central role to play in improving the human condition globally. If used appropriately, the media can address a range of issues.
Many people read newspapers, listen to various radio stations and watch television.
But for the media to successfully transform societies, they have to be free. The media also need capacity building and financial support. Practicing journalists need on-job training and access to knowledge resources.
