Because she could not afford going for medical check-up during her pregnancy, she had no knowledge she would be giving birth to two bouncing baby girls and a boy.

Tanasia Nyirabarimwabo, 33, unemployed and already a mother of five, delivered triplets on Thursday in Byumba hospital.

According to nurses at the hospital, Nyirabarimwabo, who hails from Bungwe in Burera District, successfully gave birth but lacks enough breast milk and is worried how she will feed her babies since her husband is also unemployed.

"It’s a problem to have three more children because I have been tussling with five. My husband and I don’t have anything to sustain them,” she lamented.

The Director of Byumba Hospital, Dr. Fred Muhayirwe, said that the hospital will take care of the children for the whole month while in hospital but said the other needs will be met by district authorities.

"We will be providing milk for the babies.” he said.

"But if this family gets more support from people who would want to help, it will be much better,” said Muhayirwe.

He said that any assistance rendered can be channelled through Byumba Hospital.

Midwives said the first baby girl weighed 1.5kgs, the second 1.3kgs and the boy 1.6kgs.
