Hotel, restaurant and bar operators in Kigali City have been called upon to join the Rwanda Hotels and Restaurants Association (RHRA), as a way of devising new strategies to improve service delivery.

The call was made by the newly elected chairman of the association, Dennis Karera, during the association`s general assembly.

"Coming together will help us set guidelines that will determine our operations as business people working under one umbrella and it will be our obligation as members to respect and abide by the set standards,” Karera said.

He explained that besides others expectations, teaming up will also help investors in the industry overcome challenges they meet in their daily activities.

"It is simpler to advocate for our rights as an association, or even negotiate with authorities for the betterment of our operations,” said Karera, who is also the proprietor of Park View Apartments in Nyarutarama.

According to him, plans are under way to ensure that before allocation of an operating license, one must prove his or her membership with the association.

Speaking to participants about their services which have to some point raised public concern over poor service delivery,  hoteliers said they are gradually changing the industry`s image, especially through trainings.
