Kenyan real estate developers, Executive Investments Ltd, have started the construction of their eight storey service apartments at the premises of the state broadcaster, ORINFOR.

ORINFOR which is composed of the national radio and television, is supposed to relocate to its new premises in Kacyiru at the complex that formerly belonged to the defunct Kagera Basin Organisation.

The investors acquired the land for Rwf 900m and have since been waiting for ORINFOR to relocate to pave way for the construction works.

The relocation was delayed by the renovation of the new premises, according to ORINFOR officials. 

The investors demolished the buildings that housed some of ORINFOR’s offices, namely, the marketing and finance departments, and are currently laying the foundation for the new structure.

Willy Rukundo, the acting head of ORINFOR, however told The New Times that they have the consent of the investor to continue operating in another building at the site until July next year, noting that they would be unaffected by the investor’s activities.

"We are not bothered by the situation because they will be working on one part of the land as we also work from the other part until July next year,” he said.

The New Times learnt that the two departments have temporarily been relocated to another building in Kimihurura, leaving the Rwanda Television and Radio studios at the old premises.

A representative of the Kenyan developers, who simply introduced himself as Jani, declined to comment.

He however confirmed that they would first operate on part of the 6,000 square metres site.
