Rising food prices a reality to live with

Editor, IT is unfortunate that food prices in the East African region are rising. This situation points to failure in our agricultural systems. Editor,

IT is unfortunate that food prices in the East African region are rising. This situation points to failure in our agricultural systems. Nonetheless, it is somewhat gratifying that Rwanda’s ministry of agriculture has managed to deal with the situation unlike the crisis experienced by neighbouring countries. The situation has not gone out of hand but we need to plan.

The times we are in are bad and the sad reality is the fact that fuel prices have continued to skyrocket, following the Arab spring.

And once the oil prices go up, food and transport costs also go up immediately. It is not rocket science to figure out that the prices of every commodity rotate around fuel prices.
