I was in Rwanda recently and was impressed with their reconciliation progress. I also read some literature about Gacaca courts and came to realise that this home grown solution helped heal the wounds of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
I think countries like Southern Sudan or Somalia and others in the world could learn powerful lessons from Rwanda.
I was shocked to see survivors and genocide perpetrators live together again as if nothing happened! They make the country proud with their sense of forgiveness and hard work. I think another programme that has helped the people of Rwanda to live together again is Itorero which should be lent a lot of support.
I visited memorial sites. Watching what happened to our fellow human beings, you wonder why elements like the Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda (FDLR) want to wage war, destabilise Rwanda and kill more innocent lives.
