EASTERN PROVINCE

GATSIBO — Residents of Gatsibo district have been urged to embrace the green revolution to overcome poverty.

The call was made by Bossa Rwemalika, the Gatsibo vice Mayor in charge of Finance and Economic development while speaking at one-day seminar organized by the ruling party Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF) this Wednesday in Gasange Sector. It attracted party members from the four cells of Kimani, Teme, Kigabiro and Viro.

"As party members, we should fight poverty right from the grass roots by encouraging people to work hard and develop themselves by forming cooperatives and embracing the green revolution,” Rwemalika said.

He also advised party members to enrol in adult education programmes, saying literacy skills would help them form projects that will enhance development.

John V Murego, the district mayor, and district party chairman officially opened the seminar. It was aimed at discussing the role of party members towards development.

During the event, a senior member of the party in the province, Suleiman Sibomana, discussed the structure of the party and how it works with other stake holders in order to improve social and economic spheres in the country.

"Party members should be able to evaluate themselves in order to contribute to the development of the country. They should also be ready to accept advice from opinion leaders in order to enhance their performance at all levels,” he said.
