Nzahabwanimana, yesterday said the Ministry of Infrastructure plans to renovate several kilometres of feeder roads in the Eastern Province.

The Minister disclosed this while on a tour of Kayonza-Kagitumba and Kayonza Ngoma highways.

He also toured a 34 kilometre asphalt road connecting Rwamagana District and Zaza Sector in Ngoma District, which is in bad shape.

"We are working closely with district authorities…they have to identify priority roads so that we don’t leave behind vital roads. This is what we are monitoring and soon construction of earmarked roads will commence,” he said.

Rwamagana Mayor Nehemie Uwimana, said that the rehabilitation of Rwamagana-Zaza road was long overdue, as travellers had bemoaned its poor state.

Commending the ministry, the mayor said that the poor condition of roads was affecting trade between Rwamagana and Ngoma districts.

"The road once complete, will improve business between residents of the districts…people were limited by inaccessible roads, particularly during rainy seasons,” he said.

Claver Semuhire, one of the road users however sounded downcast, saying that similar pledges to rehabilitate the Rwamagana-Zaza road were yet to be fulfilled.

"We have been told since last year that road repairs will soon begin. But up to now, we see no development. We continue to lament about the bad state of the road which severely affects our economic activities,” he said.
