Rwanda Revenue Authority is undetaking a noble task in fighting smuggling. Though smuggling of goods from neighbouring countries into Rwanda is limited, we need to jointly curb the small pockets of illicit trade.

The vice usually manifests itself during the festive period, a trend that should be curtailed by all means possible. In addition, the new tax stamps on liquors will enable consumers to ascertain what is genuine. Some of the smuggled products are sub-standard, hence posing a health threat to consumers.

It is usually the legitimate trader who loses out when this fraudulent trend takes root.
