RWANDA, for the fist time in a long time, will not have a player in the second leg of the ITF Men’s Futures after top player suffered disappointing exits in the first round of the main draw on Wednesday at Cercle Sportif Kigali.

Habiyambere lost to seed one and 410 ranked ATP player Ruan Roelofse from South Africa 1-6 2-6 on straight sets.

Anatole Bizimana followed him in the exit chamber following his poor performance against Italian Sinicropi were he lost 2-6 0-6 respectively.

Mathieu Uwizeyimana completed the bad day for Rwanda as he could not lift his game up to the standard of Fieldman Spencer of USA who beat the Rwandan player 6-1 6-2 on straight sets.

The loss from the trio ended the country’s hunt for points and silverware in the first leg of the tournament. They will have to wait for the third and final leg which starts on Sunday at the same courts.

The country’s top players including Jean Claude Gasigwa, Mubarak Harelimana, Olivier Nkunda and Hamisi Gatete were all ejected in the qualifying round.

Gatete lost to Switzerland’s Lucas Zweili 1-6 0-6; Nkunda fell to Spencer 0-6 2-6 while Harelimana lost to Nigeria’s Samuel Omoile 0-6 2-6. Ross-Hurt Dominic of Great Britain also proved too good for Gasigwa after a 6-3 7-5 victory.

The winner of the tournament will pocket $1300 (Rwf0.78m) while $700 (Rwf0.42m) has been staked for the first-runner up.
