THE Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has advised its members to focus more on the youth ahead of the 2013 Nations Cup and 2014 Fifa World Cup.

Sudan will be Cecafa’s sole flag bearer in January’s 2012 Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon but the body’s Secretary General Nicholas Musonye insists that the region has the potential to field at least three teams at the Nations Cup.

"There is huge potential in the region but we are not making the most of it. We need to invest more in the youth just like the West Africans have done,” Musonye advised.

Cecafa is made up of Tanzania Mainland, Zanzibar, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan.
