THE local football governing body (Ferwafa) is reluctant to divulge details of  Milutin Micho Sredojevic’s contract.

The Serbian finally put pen on paper, last Friday, four days after being confirmed as Amavubi’s new head coach. 

Despite intense speculation that the former Orlando Pirates coach is set to pocket between $14,000 (Rwf8.4m) and $16,000 (Rwf9.6m) per month, Ferwafa president Celestin Ntagungira deflected questions about the paycheck.

Ntagungira referred this reporter to the Permanent Secretary of the Sports Ministry, Edward Kalisa, but the latter was equally unwilling to comment on the subject.

"I will have to consult with the Public Service ministry to see whether I can make the information public but it is highly unlikely,” Kalisa said, before adding, "I don’t think other coaches’ salaries or benefits are revealed to the public.”

The 42-year-old took over from Sellas Tetteh, who threw in the towel after a 5-0 thrashing by Ivory Coast in a 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifier.
Several other big names had been shortlisted for the job, including new Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi, Patrice Neveu of France, Branko Smiljanic and Ratomir Djukovic, who guided Rwanda to their first and only Nations Cup finals, back in 2004.

Micho’s immediate task is to qualify Rwanda to the group stage of the 2014 Fifa World Cup. To do so, Amavubi have to beat Eritrea in a two-legged qualifier. The first leg is slated for Friday in Asmara before a return leg in Kigali four days later.

The winner will join Algeria, Benin and Mali in Group H.

Micho will then lead out the wasps in the upcoming Tusker Cecafa Challenge Cup in Dar-es-Salaam before switching his focus to the 2013 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers. The Challenge Cup is slated to run from November 24 to December 10.
