NYAMASHEKE-Poor residents in Bushekeri Sector, Nyamasheke District, on Sunday received over 95 cows and 21 goats worth Rwf 15 million.

The animals were donated by local residents in line with the government cattle stocking programme, Gir’Inka.

"All the district did was to sensitise the residents. This initiative and donation is entirely from the local people and a great sign of embracing the great plans that the government has for us,” said a district official in charge of agriculture, Felix Sindayiheba.

Bushekeri Sector Executive Secretary, Eloy Munyankindi, called upon residents to uphold kindness and hard work as major tools of development.

"We want to see more similar great activities done for the vulnerable. Those who just got cattle, take good care of them, use them for development and donate to others when you the time comes,” he advised.

The beneficiaries attributed the animal donation to good governance.

In the past, not everyone could own a cow, said Omina Nyirahabimana, a member of the historically marginalised group.

"I personally lived a pathetic life, in the forest with no house, but due to current good governance, I have got a house and now a cow.”

Residents vowed to play a more active role in implementing government programmes.
