Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi is scheduled to appear before Parliament today afternoon to present the government’s agenda, according to the House’s programme released last evening.

This will be his first appearance since his appointment earlier last month.

When contacted yesterday, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Protais Musoni, said he could not divulge details, but noted that "more or less, it would be in line with President Paul Kagame’s manifesto during the 2010 general election.

He added that the premier’s maiden presentation is "of course looking at what was achieved in the first year of President Kagame’s seven year mandate.”

The President was last year overwhelmingly elected for a second seven-year term which he will conclude in 2017.

"Secondly, even in the first year, other emergencies might come up which need to be taken care of. And, he may either lower the targets or they may be raised,” Musoni said.

The constitution requires that the head of government highlights programmes of focus, 30 days after taking office.

President Kagame appointed Habumuremyi last month, replacing long serving Bernard Makuza, who is now a vice president of the Senate.
