Whereas the dates for the 2011/12 edition of Peace Cup tournament have been released, Ferwafa and the tournament title sponsors are yet to meet and agree on how much funding the telecom company will pump into.

The 17th edition of the tournament was originally supposed to start mid this month but has now been pushed to early next month due to the rescheduling of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Tanzania.

Last year, MTN slashed their sponsorship by half after committing only Rwf25m, which the company’s Chief Marketing Officer Yvonne Manzi Makolo has attributed to the short period of time that the tournament was played in.

"Part of the reason that we halved the sponsorship is because the tournament ran for only two months. We have not yet met the new administration to see how much money we shall put in the next edition,” Makolo said.

She however, declined to confirm or deny whether it will be the usual Rwf 50m or last year’s Rwf 25m. MTN started sponsoring the tournament since 2008. APR won the tournament after a 4-2 win over Police in the finals of the knock out competition.

The military side will be strong favourites to retain the trophy after spending millions to bolster their squad in the transfer window.

The 9 time winners have experienced players in their ranks, who include Amavubi Stars captain Olivier Karekezi, Burundian internationals Papy Fatty, Seleman Ndikumana, and Ugandan Internationals Habib Kavuma and Dan Wagaluka.
