RUTSIRO- People relocated from Gishwati forest to Rutsiro District, yesterday received 76 cows from the Rwanda Red Cross Society.

The donation is part of continuous support aimed at helping the group in its resettlement.

While handing over the cows yesterday, Dr Bernard Nzigiye, the president of Rwanda Red Cross, urged the beneficiaries to support each other, both socially and financially.

"Your lives will definitely improve if you join hands in whatever you do. Cooperation and hard work are important aspects towards attaining sustainable development,” he said.

He advised them to form farmers’ associations and pledged financial support for the cooperatives.

Nzigiye revealed that the organisation has set aside over Rwf 80 million to support such developmental programmes for vulnerable groups.

Over 1,000 families are estimated to have been relocated to the area.

 After receiving the cattle, ecstatic beneficiaries could not hide their happiness.

"This is a very great accomplishment for me and my family. I can never thank them enough for the generosity,” one of the beneficiaries identified as Louise Mbyeyi said.

Rutsiro vice Mayor in charge of social affairs, Jacqueline Nyirabagurinzira, thanked the Red Cross for its support.

"We are lucky to have such supportive developmental partners because the residents are indeed gradually improving their lives,” she said.
