KIREHE- Eastern Province Governor, Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, has announced of plans to exchange knowledge and technology with the Western Province.

She disclosed this Thursday when her counterpart from the Western Province, Celestin Kabahizi, led a delegation of mayors, provincial security officers and farmers on a tour of development projects in the district.

Kirabo disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed to seal some important areas of cooperation.

"We also had some good lessons in the Western Province... now that they equally found what to take back home, we can exchange. A systematic approach to do things will be forged,” she said.

During their tour, Kabahizi commended the activities of banana farmers in Kirehe District.

The group visited banana and pineapple farms, Nyagatovu and Kitazigurwa Integrated Development Programme (IDP) and STEELRWA factory, a manufacturer of iron bars in Rwamagana.

Kabahizi said that banana growers in the area would help farmers in his province improve their banana production.

"What I have seen here is beyond expectations...farmers have mastered banana growing techniques to satisfying levels. Banana growing techniques in Kirehe are astonishing. We want to borrow a leaf by inviting them to teach us,” he said.

Kabahizi noted that the farmers had gone an extra-mile in utilising every piece of land under crop production.

"The work done on Kirehe farms offers us big lessons...most of our high hills are not utilised, but Kirehe hills are covered with pineapples. Our tour has been fruitful”.

The chairperson of banana growers in Kirehe District Anastase Rwabizankwaya, assured the visitors of support in adopting the farming methods in their respective areas.

"We are facilitating banana farming lessons countrywide...but we intend to do more when it comes to the Western Province. We want to see our friends being able to dry and package their bananas just as we do in Kirehe,” he said.
