A senior lecturer at the Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) died on Tuesday at the King Faisal Hospital in Kigali. Prof. Lutumba Illunga, 63, a Congolese national, was the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies at the Institute. He is survived by a wife and eight children.

He is survived by a wife and eight children.
Illunga received a Bachelors degree in Mineralogy and Geological Sciences from Unaza/Lubumbashi University in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He acquired his Masters degree and PhD from Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium. It is at the same university that he first worked as a visiting professor between 1991 and 1992.
He also worked as a visiting professor at the National University of Rwanda between 1996 and 2000 before joining KIE where he worked for over ten years.
He was buried yesterday in Kigali.
