NYAGATARE-The outgoing Governor of the Eastern Province, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, has urged the area’s business community to excel in their domains and serve as role models in their respective localities.

She made the call on Monday while officially closing the provincial trade fair that took place in Nyagatare District.

The 10-day exhibition was organised by the Private Sector Federation and the district’s Joint Action Development Forum (JADF), in collaboration with the district’s administration.

The trade fair attracted hundreds of exhibitors from the province and others from as far as Pakistan, Egypt, Uganda and Tanzania.

Speaking from Umutara Polytechnic University playgrounds, Kirabo requested the organisers to ensure that the trade fair becomes an annual event.

"An exhibition like this should be a culture that should be rooted right from our families…if you have a firm, it should be neat and whoever visits it leaves with a desire to learn from it,” advised the provincial leader.

"This is what the expo means. You must work hard to become role models in all fields.”

The Provincial head of the Private Sector Federation, Tom Rwagasana, commended the government for the implementation of good policies which have enabled traders to operate in a better environment.

"We wish to request you to pass on this message to President Paul Kagame for his efforts in ensuring that traders have a say in nation building,” he said.

Rwagasana further requested the provincial authorities to assist the private sector organise the next trade fair during a favourable period.

"This expo was well organised but we experienced hindrances like rains. We request the province to help us organise the next expo during the dry season,” he said.

Compassion International emerged the overall best exhibitor at the event.
