ELITE cyclist Adrien Niyonshuti has praised the level of competitiveness after being forced to dig deep in Sunday’s Tour of Kigali.
The South African based rider used 4 hours, 58 minutes and 11 seconds, just micro-seconds ahead of Nathan Byukusenge and a second clear of Abraham Ruhumuriza in one of the tightest races in the history of the local cycling.
64 riders started the 151km race but only 33 finished the race that involved steep slopes in scorching sunshine.
Speaking to Times Sport after receiving his receiving the winner’s Rwf 0.3m cash prize, Niyonshuti praised his colleagues for pushing him all the way.
"The guys were phenomenon and I’m happy that we have this kind of competition in Rwanda. It says a lot about the level of cycling,” a weary Niyonshuti said.
The race which is a prelude to the Tour of Rwanda that is scheduled to take place later this month was sponsored by Cogear, Tele 10 and Kigali City Council.
