The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo, yesterday, met with Rwandans living in Australia.

She was accompanied by Rwanda’s High Commissioner to
Australia,Dr Charles Murigande, based in Tokyo, Japan, the Executive Secretary of Rwanda Governance Advisory Council (RGAC), Prof. Anasthase Shyaka , and John Gara, CEO, Rwanda Development Board (RDB).

Also present was Rwanda’s High Commissioner to the UK, Ernest Rwamucyo.

In her address, on behalf of President Kagame, Minister Mushikiwabo
delivered a message of salutation from the Head of State, and his hopes to meet soon with the Rwandan Diaspora in Australia and New Zealand.

She added that Rwanda was devoted to its citizens anywhere they may be. "We rescued 40 Rwandans in Libya during the uprising and 80 Rwandans in Egypt during the protest.”

Mushikiwabo gave a review of Rwanda’s achievements with regard to her foreign policy, with Shyaka sharing the progress made in the area of good governance, while John Gara highlighted investment opportunities.

Members of the Rwandan Diaspora expressed interest in learning more about the country’s progress and what contributions they can make to hasten the development process. They expressed delight especially that they have a High Commissioner to represent them.

"We hope the new High Commissioner will be close to us and help us unite since there are many
Rwandans in Australia,” a participant remarked. The gathering was the first of its kind. Most Rwandans in Australia are students while others work there.

Also present were friends of Rwanda from DRC, Zimbabwe and Australia.

Mushikiwabo had accompanied President Kagame to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth, Australia, which ended yesterday.
