Editor,

I am writing in reference to the article published in yesterday’s issue of The Sunday Times titled: "Rwanda’s tourism to be re-branded.”

Domestic tourism has two major components; the local and those from the East Africa region.

If these categories are sensitised on the importance of tourism, by identifying places that would be unique to fit into their interests, this will help the local communities to invest in tourism destinations and make products such as handicrafts specifically targeting local tourists.

I believe that with the current strong public private partnership, tourism can create employment, especially among the youth, by encouraging them to set up projects that can attract, market and enhance local tourism.

Local tourism will also help sensitise people on the need to conserve nature and the eco systems thus boosting our economy. I am certain that this initiative started by private sector will help boost the private sector led economy that the government is emphasising.
