THE long wait to have a local coach for the senior national football team ‘Amavubi Stars’ continues after the first selection phase left no local coach in the race.

Ferwafa, yesterday, shortlisted five coaches for the vacant job.

The list includes Nigeria’s Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, France’s Patrice Neveu and the Serbian trio of Ratomir Djukovic, Branko Smiljanic and Milutin Micho Sredojevic.

Some of the conditions for the position include; a professional coaching license (license A), experience of coaching an African club or national team, proven track record of winning trophies or guiding a team to the quarters, semis, or winning a major African tournament on both club and country level, conversant in English or French, capable of marketing local players to foreign clubs and a broad vision for local, regional and African football.

Local coaches who had expressed interest included Rayon Sport’s Jean Marie Ntagwabira, Amavubi interim coach Eric Nshimiyimana, Antoine Rutsindura and Thomas Higiro.

The new coach will be named after the 2014 Fifa World Cup two-legged qualifier against Eritrea.
