THE draw for this year’s Tusker Challenge Cup will take place on November 2 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

However, the two guest sides for the tournament are still unclear. Cecafa’s Secretary General Nicholas Musonye yesterday said that South Africa, Zambia, Ivory Coast and Malawi had all expressed interest in taking part in the tournament which is slated to run from November 25 – December 10.

"Four countries have expressed interested but we need to make a decision on the two sides who will take part,” he said.

The body will also go to polls on the eve of the tournament. Current president Leodegar Tenga is seeking a third-term of office. The Tanzanian, who took over from the late Dennis Obua in 2004, is also a member of FIFA’s technical study team (TSC).

First held in 1926 as the Gossage Cup, the tournament still stands out as the oldest in Africa.

Before crossing over to Cosafa (Council of Southern Africa Football Associations), Malawi won the tournament three times (1978, 1979 and 1988).

Uganda are still the record champions with 11 titles followed by Kenya (five) and Ethiopia (four). Rwanda’s only triumph dates back to 1999.
