A new logistics school will be set up at the Police Training School in Gishali in a bid to improve the capacity and professionalism of the force.

 The foundation stone of the school was laid yesterday by the Minister of Infrastructure, Albert Nsengiyumva, who officiated at the event that was attended by the Minister of Internal Security, Mussa Fazil Harelimana, and the Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana.

Nsengiyumva said that collaboration between the Police and the Ministry of Infrastructure has been extended and strengthened to ensure that the officers are skilled.

"It is our responsibility to ensure capacity building of our men and women,” Nsengiyumva said, adding that beyond peacekeeping operations, the country will also share the expertise and use the skills learnt from the school.

"Peace means access to water, power, and good social amenities; by bringing peace, we can solve some problems which many people face in areas where we operate,” the Minister said.

The Police Chief highlighted the importance of the upcoming school saying that it would contribute to professionalism and help officers overcome the demanding tasks of today’s  world.

He added that with skills, officers will be better equipped to address the challenges they face.

"We shall continuously work hand-in-hand with various institutions to develop the police force to acquire the skills required in our daily service delivery,” Gasana said.

The school will offer various programmes including, driving and mechanical skills, construction, water and electricity installations.

Construction is scheduled to be completed next year.
