Bad company ruins good character

Choose your friends wisely because the wrong friends can be trouble. Many teens have ended up in terrible situations, crying for someone to come and save them, and no one could or it was too late to change. Take the time to think about what a true friend means. Pay attention to your comfort level when you’re with a person. A true friend makes you feel at ease. Someone who bombards you with negative comments, criticizes rather than encourages and pushes you to do things you don’t want to do will never be a true friend.

Notice if the person shows concern for your well-being. That means they don’t give you a dissertation on their life before you get a chance to say anything else. When you start talking about your problems, see if you have their full attention.

A true friend is someone who can accompany you on the journey to personal growth. Someone who just agrees with everything you say or makes you feel inadequate isn’t going to help you reach your potential.

The people you choose to spend most of your time with will either make or break you. Like the saying goes, "Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are.” If you hang out with a group of people who are dishonest or often cut school, their behaviors will eventually affect you.

Avoid been around negative people who will only put you down or pressure you to get involved with gangs and bad habits. Instead choose friends that will have a positive impact on your life.

Choose people with solid character like honesty, intelligence, loyalty, dedication and responsibility among others. Ones you share mutual interest with. When you find that person, cherish and seek friendship with them for they are a gift in your life.

When choosing friends. Avoid trying to be someone you’re not. Just be yourself. Let yourself be known and accepted for your own merits, rather than for being someone that you are not.

Remember to treat others with kindness and respect. This type of positive attitude will make people want to be more open around you, giving you a greater opportunity to make new friends who share your interest. This is a major goal when choosing friends.
