The ranking of Rwanda as the third easiest place to do business in Africa, according to the 2012 World Bank Doing Business Report, is something to be proud for Rwandans.

The current leadership inherited a shattered economy following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. As a result, to put in place strategies that have yielded great economic and political milestones within four years is indeed out of this world.

A very notable step up is the eighth ranking of the country in the criteria on getting credit, which is much higher than last year’s 32nd position.

I believe this is primarily due to the Government’s great initiative of creating a fully functional private Credit Reference Bureau.

It also sends a very clear signal that the Government of Rwanda, under the able leadership of President Paul Kagame, is committed to ensuring that banks and other lending institutions have nothing to worry about regarding the credit-worthiness of borrowers in the country.

 On paying taxes, Rwanda moved to the 19th position from last year’s 43rd position. Yet another strong indicator of the tremendous progress the country is making. I wish Rwandans continued success in the years ahead.
