Rwanda coffee farmers are to start a marketing alliance in a bid to have collective efforts towards marketing coffee on the international market.

The alliance comes at a time when different coffee farmers’ cooperatives and exporters have been working independently and competing against each other.

But Alex Kanyankole, the director general of Rwanda Coffee Authority, OCIR Café said disunity and marketing problems will be addressed with the Rwanda Coffee Marketing Alliance (RCMA) in place.

RCMA is to be registered and start operation in April this year. Part of its mandate is to ensure quality of Rwanda’s coffee as per the international standards. For the second year running, Rwanda coffee has been voted by international coffee experts as best.

Against this backdrop, Kanyankole said the alliance will market Rwanda’s coffee both on the national and international level to have a more favourable and reliable market. And, Frw300m is required to fund the alliance operations.
