The management of the School of Finance and Banking – SFB, maintains that everything is under control preparations for Miss SFB 2011 beauty pageant gain momentum.

The event will take place on November 5, 2011 at the institution’s auditorium. As the committee gets down to business, aspirants are busy preparing themselves for D-Day.

However, there is no other aspect of the beauty pageant that rouses as much fright and tension as the inscrutable interview session.

Annually, female contenders for the coveted SFB beauty crown are always eager to showcase their talent. This year, nine candidates will contest for the crown. Besides the routine accolades, the winner will walk away with various luxurious goodies and VIP treatments.

This year however, the event that is on its third year will feature special nominations, including Miss Popularity and Miss Elegance.

Steven Nankunda, the Guild President of SFB, who is also in charge of the pageant, said that the main sponsor of the event is the University Authority. He observed that the neigbouring community has so far been very helpful.

The idea behind the beauty contest locally known as ‘Nyampinga’, was initiated by Dr. Jean Pierre Higiro to encourage excellence in universities by recognising students’ efforts, especially girls and other stakeholders, in the development process of schools and the country at large.

Participates expected to grace this year’s ceremony will include Miss Inter-university Phiona Kamikazi and beauty pageant winners from various other universities around the country, among other invited guests.

Nankunda told the press that this year’s event is expected to be unique and successful compared to the previous editions.

"We are using the experience we got from other universities and we are keen to make ours unique and successful,” Nankunda noted.

However, although some winners from some universities have been dormant, only a few like Miss National University of Rwanda 2007 and Miss SFB 2008, Karine Rusaro Utamuriza and Joan Ingabire, respectively, are still recognised due to their major contributions to society.

During her term, Utamuriza represented Rwanda in many other beauty pageants, including Congo Brazaville, Ethiopia and Miss World Youth in China, where she emerged first in Africa and 10th in the world.  Ingabire, meanwhile, was especially active in promoting gender equality in schools and hosted various charity events to support underprivileged children.
