Rucyahana tips on reconciliation

GATSIBO - The president of National Unity and Reconciliation Commission, Bishop John Rucyahana, has called on leaders and residents of Gatsibo district to foster unity and reconciliation, reports Dan Ngabonziza.

Speaking at the district General assembly Tuesday, Rucyahana observed that unity and reconciliation is the foundation to sustainable development.

The Minister in charge of Cabinet Affairs, Protais Musoni, who was among the attendees, warned local leaders against neglecting their duties.

Mayor, Ambrose Ruboneza said he hoped the meeting would help build team spirit among workers.

Former sex workers get aid

RUHANGO -  A local association Ihorere-Munyarwanda (AIMR) Tuesday donated 12 heifers to former commercial sex workers in Ruhango sector, reports Daniel Sabiiti.

The heifers, worth Rwf3million, were handed over by Aimable Mwananawe, the AIMR national coordinator, to eight former commercial sex workers grouped under ‘Reba Kure’ Association.

The beneficiaries said that the heifers will not only be a source of income, but will provide milk and manure for their farms .

The women’s association also committed to help in the fight against HIV/Aids.

Former militia members trained

RUSIZI - About 70 former members of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) militia are undergoing four-day training in various developmental programmes, reports Lillian Nakayima.

The training organised by Rusizi district is meant to help participants in their reintegration process.

"It doesn’t end here. There is a new programme to equip them with vocational skills after which they will be given work kits,” said Patrick Gatete, one of the officials in charge of the programme.

Munezero Rwajekare, one of the participants, appealed to their former colleagues still in the bush to abandon rebellion and repatriate.
