Energy, Water and Sanitary Authority (EWSA) will next month import 400,000 energy saving bulbs in order to conserve power consumption in the country.

This was disclosed yesterday by Yves Muyange, the Director General of EWSA, during the utility’s Accountability Day, which was held in Kacyiru Sector, Gasabo District.

He noted that the use of energy savers will see electricity bills drastically fall.

"The main objective of this day is to celebrate what the company has achieved and to chart the way forward on how best EWSA can improve its service delivery in general," he said.

Muyange urged EWSA clients to closely work with its staff, saying that they are always available to address challenges, including water shortages and load-shedding in homes and work places.

Josephine Murerwa, a resident of Kinyinya Sector said: "I thank EWSA and the government in general for extending power in our sector because it has significantly improved our lives socially and financially”

"Some times, we incur losses due to load shedding which mainly happens during the day; I call upon EWSA to do something about this,” Peter Ndahayo, a resident of Kagugu Cell in Kinyinya Sector appealed.

David Vuningoma, a resident of Kacyiru urged EWSA to extend more water pipes and transformers in all community settlements (imidugudu). He observed that this would help address issues of water scarcity in the area.

The Accountability Day was celebrated in all 11 EWSA stations within Kigali City. According to Muyange, similar events will take place in the remaining nine stations across the country.
