Every teenager experiences moments when they really need someone to talk to. There are so many puzzling things that happen during teenagehood. They need answers from someone they are comfortable speaking to.

These could be new experiences of adolescence, mistreatment at home, juggling with school work, friends and sexual relationships among so many issues.

Teens sometimes find it hard to speak to the people they are closest to such as parents and siblings. They sometimes prefer talking to a random person, they probably know little about but are willing to listen to them and offer a shoulder to lean on.

When faced with such challenges, teens should understand that it happens to everyone—it is part of growing up.

The worst thing to do in such a situation is to keep quiet and let it kill you inside yet there are quite a number of people who can help you.

Lately, so many schools have counselors. Their work is to be the student’s ear, listen to their queries, questions and advise accordingly.

They are usually friendly people who will keep your discussions confidential. They are very reliable and since they are trained, they just might offer very good advice.

Most people also have a relative they love so much; the one they are completely free around. It could be an aunt, uncle, cousin, grandparent or nephew and niece. Talk to them.

Another option is someone from your spiritual community that is; church or mosque. They could be one of the counselors or leaders. These too can be very comforting and helpful.

However, it’s always better to talk to someone of the same sex. If you are a girl, it is better to talk to a woman and vice versa. This is because, sometimes, the opposite sex may take advantage of your situation or might get overwhelmed because they do not understand your feelings.

It’s never healthy to bottle up hurt feelings; these can destroy you from inside out. This is the leading cause of trauma and can be very dangerous. Always seek solace in the fact that you will get through whatever circumstance you go through.

No situation is permanent. Hardships always pass away. Find someone to talk to, love and live your life abundantly. Do not despair!
