Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Frank Mugambage, has called on students to desist from practices that can tarnish their dignity, and work towards consolidating the progress Rwanda has registered.

The envoy made the remarks, yesterday, while presiding over a Prayer Conference organized by Rwandan students of Kampala International University (KIU).

"God wants you to live a purposeful life to benefit you, your community and ultimately your country,” Mugambage told hundreds of students from different universities in Uganda that gathered at KIU.

The event was marked my sermons and songs of praise performed by Gisubizo Ministries, a Kampala based church.

Mugambage emphasized the need for enhancing the Rwandan culture by all those who live in the Diaspora, adding that it is culture that fully defines any human being.

"Cultural identity is very important no matter where you stay. Always remember that it is very wrong for anyone to hide their identity because that is a precious gift from God,” he added.

Quoting a biblical verse, Zitunga Katushabe, a representative of the University’s Vice Chancellor, called on the students to work hard and promote the good image their country has gained.

The Students’ Patron, John Mutenda, urged the students to be patriotic and avoid any messages of divisionism from individuals that keep pursuing selfish interests.

The students’ leader, Elloy Kazigaba, said that the event is held annually to thank God for the achievements registered, as well as pray for peace to continue prevailing.
