GICUMBI — Local leaders have been urged to show compassion to Genocide survivors during this year’s Genocide commemoration week.
The call was made by the Gicumbi district vice Mayor for Social Affairs, Eugenie Uwamahoro, while meeting local leaders on Tuesday. She also urged local leaders to be vigilant to ensure security of survivors.
"You should ensure that people don’t engage in merry-making activities such as dance, and watching entertaining films during this period," said Uwamahoro.
The vice Mayor also asked the local leaders to maintain Genocide memorial sites and assist in the burial of Genocide remains which were discovered at Mutete and Ruvune Sectors.
She further advised the local leaders to continue with the war against genocide ideology which was still prevalent in the minds of some Rwandans.
"You should continue the fight against people who continue to propagate the genocide ideology countrywide," advised Uwamahoro.
