The Lake Tanganyika Basin Development Conference, slated for next month in Burundi will discuss increasing investment and trade in the East African Community. Themed “Unlocking the Overflowing Trade and Investment Opportunities in the Basin”, the two-day event (Nov 28-29) is meant to harness the potential for trade, investment and socio-economic development in the Lake Tanganyika Basin.

Themed "Unlocking the Overflowing Trade and Investment Opportunities in the Basin”, the two-day event (Nov 28-29) is meant to harness the potential for trade, investment and socio-economic development in the Lake Tanganyika Basin.
The conference is expected to showcase investments opportunities in the Lake Tanganyika Basin, including job creation, income generation, and improved economic performance in the region.
The outcomes of the conference include, increasing Public-Private Partnerships in the EAC-SADC-COMESA region as well as increasing awareness and understanding on the importance of the Lake Tanganyika Basin.
The conference is expected to promote research and technological advancement that support increased productivity and income generation in the basin.
The Conference is being organized by the East African Community Secretariat in collaboration with the Republic of Burundi as the host country and Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC).
The business communities from EAC-SADC-COMESA countries; Development Partners; foreign missions; banking industry; local and foreign investors; Research Institutions and Universities are expected to participate in the conference.
The conference will coincide with the 10th Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State scheduled for November 30, 2011 in Bujumbura, Burundi.
