RUBAVU — Kivu Serena Hotel, former Kivu Sun, will soon import big boats for its clients to use in Lake Kivu..

Paul Gaston, in charge of water sports at the hotel, told The New Times last week that with the new facilities in place, people will be in position to hold parties, celebrations, weddings and meetings on water.

He was speaking about the hotel’s future plans to improve and provide quality services to the people.

He said the hotel through its water sports projects which started in January this year, will also help guide customers in various water sports to keep them healthy and physically fit.

"Water sport is one of the games that help us keep physically fit and healthy. There are various sports such as swimming, boat riding which involve the use of energy thus keeping the body physically fit and in shape. This at the same time facilitates blood flow," he said.

Paul explained that their water sport project was demand driven. He said that small manually-propelled boats are already in place. He noted that water accidents have reduced because many people, who originally wanted to go into the water without swimming skills, can now use the boats.

"The hotel has already procured small inflated boats which are manually operated and are available to our visitors," he said.

Other boats to be imported include engine boats which will be used in sports activities including fishing competitions to be held every two months.

According to Paul, boats with fishing gear carrying three people each will compete with each other and the first group to catch fish will be crowned winners. He said all the innovations are meant to provide quality services to Rwandans and tourists who visit the area to enjoy the nature and the beauty of Lake Kivu.
