Dieudonne Disi will lead Rwanda’s team at the forthcoming IAAF World Cross Country Championship set for March 30 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
He finished 23rd in last year’s edition held in Mombasa, Kenya but Disi is ready to lead his team mates to a better finish this time round.
The local athletics governing body, RAF yesterday named a seven-man strong male team.
Two of the athletes; Cyriaque Ndayikengurikiye and Felix Ntirenganya are new faces in a squad that has a blend of experience and young blood.
National team head coach Adolph Rukenkanya confirmed the male team but insisted that the female team will be named tomorrow. The provisional female team is under tight scrutiny.
Other athletes on the team include; Gervais Hakizimana, the team captain, Sylvain Rukundo, Jean Baptista Simuceka and Godfrey Rutayisire.
Those dropped from the initial squad which has been undergoing a one-month residential training in Ruhengeri were Rashid Safari and Alex Gakwaya.
The girls’ team is expected to comprise of five athletes but one name assured of a place on the team is that of Angelline Nyiransabimana.
The 22-year-old, who is based at the famous Eldoret training camp min Kenya, brings with her the much needed experience.
