GICUMBI - The former Executive Secretary of Gicumbi District, Sinese Museveni, has threatened to drag the district to court over what he terms; unfair dismissal.
Museveni told The New Times that he had resorted to the courts for arbitration after failing to secure justice from the Ministry of Public Service and Labour, the Ombudsman and the Public Service Commission, where he had previously sought redress.
"I have already contacted my lawyer to sue the district. I have resorted to court to solve my issue,” Museveni said.
"Can you imagine up to now I have not been given any document indicating why I was dismissed yet?.
"I still don’t know the circumstances surrounding my dismissal,” Museveni added.
Gicumbi District Council, in July, passed a vote of no confidence, dismissing Museveni, over alleged incompetence.
The councillors accused Museveni of reluctance to pay debts the district owes to various private service providers, leading to a loss of Rwf350 million, coupled with failure to implement the council’s directives, among a list of other charges. They alleged that these undermined the credibility of the district.
However, Museveni argues that the service providers did not possess the necessary documents to warrant payment claiming that the tenders were fraudulently won. Museveni wants court to reinstate him and an investigation carried out against district officials.
When contacted, district officials, said they were ready for a legal battle.
"He is free to seek legal action......we are ready. You know if someone is guilty and he decides to proceed with the matter, you cannot stop him,” said Alexandre Mvuyekure, the district Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Planning, who is also a member of the District Council.
"But if he thinks he was unjustly dismissed, why is he out of the office? But we are used to his threats,” Mvuyekure added.
