KIGALI -A visiting delegation from Rhineland Palatinate, a German state with a special and longstanding relationship with Rwanda, has commended Kigali for ensuring the smooth running of the projects they support.

The 25-member team is led by the state’s minister in charge of Sports and Infrastructure, led by Roger Lewentz, and includes the health minister, Malu Dreyer, members of parliament, mayors and several experts.

Rwanda’s cooperation with the German Federal State of Rhineland Palatinate, which is in its 29th year, covers various sectors including education, health, trade, energy, environment, culture and youth empowerment.

"We have not yet visited all the projects but some of the information I have is that they are well coordinated and running smoothly, and I want to pledge that our government will continue extending support to Rwanda,” Lewentz told The New Times.

He added they had a special interest in investing in Rwanda, stating that they were interested in urging the German youth to take the lead.

The delegation is in the country as part of routine visits to the projects the German state finances, as well as exploring possibilities to further strengthen their cooperation.The Germans are associated with about 57 projects in the country.

Rwanda’s Minister of Local Government, James Musoni, expressed gratitude to the Germans and their state, and underlined the government’s commitment to further trade and investment ties between both sides.
