MUHANGA— Officials of the Rwanda Karate Federation recently visited Muhanga in an effort to revive the martial arts sports commonly known as karate.
Hundreds of teenagers, working class, and children turned up at Muhanga Cultural Centre to participate in the event which had been neglected for years. The group displayed various skills to local leaders and residents who thought the sport had lost value.
"The revival of Karate in Gitarama town is necessary because it has existed for years without taking root. This event is just a revival that should be a source of new life, commitment and discipline to many youths in the district," said Tharcisse Sinzi, the President of the federation.
Sinzi is also the Region C Karate technical director, Africa-Continental Empire and black belt holder.
Alice Uwimbabazi, the Muhanga district vice mayor promised district support towards the sport, and urged the participants to begin competitions to promote community participation.
"Karate will be included in good governance competitions and it is important for this game to groom future leaders with discipline and commitment."
Yuan Jado, the Muhanga Karate Club representative observed that discipline and hard work were core in gaining promotion in the sport.
