Ugandan President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has delivered on his pledge of US$300,000 (about Rw180m) towards construction works at a school in Kicukiro District.

Museveni made the pledge while on a state visit to Rwanda, in July, this year, during a community exercise (Umuganda) to construct classrooms at Nyarugunga Primary School in Kanombe Sector.

Earlier on the same day, the Ugandan leader and his host, President Paul Kagame, had laid the foundation stone for the construction of the classrooms.

Uganda’s Minister in the President’s Office and Minister for Kampala City, Kabakumba Matsiko, delivered the cheque.

"He (Museveni) found that it was a noble initiative; that’s why he pledged to contribute,” she observed.

She also delivered US$ 10,000 the Ugandan first lady, Janet Museveni, pledged to Kigali Genocide Memorial during the same state visit.

Rwanda’s Foreign affairs minister, Louise Mushikiwabo, who received the donation, commended President Museveni and the Ugandan First Lady for fulfilling their promises, adding that the gesture signified the solidarity that exists between the two countries.

Mushikiwabo observed that the two countries have maintained close bilateral ties, noting that the ties will continue to grow for the benefit of citizens in the two countries.
