THE race for Ferwafa president is down to three following Emmanuel Byiringiro’s withdraw. The controversial football fan, who recently switched allegiance from Rayon to APR pulled out mysteriously and says he will now back former international referee Celestin Ntagungira a.k.a Abega.

"Due to unforeseen reasons, I have decided to pull out,” Byiringiro said, before adding, "I endorse Ntagungira because I think he is the best candidate for the job.”

Abega wants radical changes in the way local football is run and believes the easiest way for this to happen is if he is running the show.

Speaking to Times Sport recently, the 45-year-old, who retired after the 2010 Fifa World Cup, says that once voted into office, he will re-ignite the national team, stabilize the primus league calendar and draw more fans into the stadiums.

"One of my immediate goals is to harmonize the clubs, fans, sports administrators, journalists and other stake holders,” he was quoted as saying.

"I want to engage the stakeholders more. We should respect the clubs more, and the clubs should also respect the member associations.”

"The Primus league also needs to have a stable calendar, Ntagungira, who will be fronted by Rayon Sport promised.

The other candidates are Alain Mukubu from Mukura and 30-year-old Theonas Ndanguza who was seconded by Musanze.

Elections for the post are scheduled for October 22. Ferwafa vice president Raoul Gisanuri also revealed that the new chief executive officer would be appointed five days after the elections.

Both positions fell vacant when Brig. Gen Jean Bosco Kazura and Jules Kalisa resigned as President and C.E.O respectively.
