The national ladies’ volleyball team needs US$52,650 estimated at Frw29 millions to take part in its inaugural African Cup of Nations volleyball competition that runs from September 3-12 in Nairobi, Kenya.
According to Gertrude Kubwimana, the local volleyball federation’s executive secretary, the sum covers the team’s pre-tournament preparations ranging from accommodation and meals, transportation costs to and fro, team uniforms, CAN registration fees and the team’s allowances while in Nairobi.
"The amount caters for the team’s pre-tournament expenses, costs during the tournament and transport expenses,” the official stressed.
The budget that was deposited to the Ministry of Sport, Youth and Culture offices a few days ago was yet to be approved by press time yesterday.
Since the tournament’s induction, Rwanda is one of those countries that will be making their maiden appearance at the competition.
Despite lack of experience at this level, the federation is optimistic that the national team can manoeuvre their way through to the last eight.
"We believe that the players have been actively playing the game.
They have been featuring for their respective clubs in local competitions like Coupe du Rwanda and Carre’d’AS so there shouldn’t be any doubts about the team’s preparations,” the federation’s assistant technical director Emmanuel Ndungutse emphasised.
Since August 20, the 16-man team has stepped up its training schedule to two daily sessions at Amahoro indoor stadium.
On top of the tournament hosts and defending champions, Kenya, the tournament that is rolling into its 16th edition has attracted some of the continent’s giants Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria and Tunisia. Ends
