Mobile money bulk payments will foster faster and efficient payment systems in the economy, MTN’s Mobile Money Manager, Albert Kinuma has said. Mobile money bulk payments will foster faster and efficient payment systems in the economy, MTN’s Mobile Money Manager, Albert Kinuma has said.
The new system will facilitate companies or institutions to make timely payment of staff salaries, ease trade payments and carrying of bulk cash.
"This is especially interesting for companies with a large workforce or partners who are located across the country,” Kinuma said.
He noted that workers first get registered on Mobile Money where the company then uploads a file onto the Mobile Money platform which contains the names, numbers and amounts to be disbursed and their accounts credited.
"The service offers security, speed and is very affordable with a transaction charged at only Rwf120. The recipients can then withdraw their cash from any of our 400 mobile money agents across the country,” he added.
One of the first industries that have taken up the service is construction, where multiple companies pay workers on a regular basis.
"I have not seen my employer using it but I believe this is one way that will help us to get our money in time and also have our money fully paid and not lie to us that the bank has refused to release enough money to pay us,” Nsabimana Damien, 25, a construction worker in Kigali said.
While opening the 13th service centre in Nyamirabo, MTN’s Yvonne Manzi Makolo said that extension of services to excluded areas will help facilitate trade and growth of the country.
She noted that the centre will offer mobile money services data solutions, airtime, sim pack sales and swaps.
