I leant through the Sunday Times yesterday that 12 public institutions have been dragged to courts of law for failing to account for public funds the Auditor General found missing.

This is a welcome move on behalf of the office of the prosecutor general, though it has come a bit late.

Thinking of taking these people to court after three years makes it almost impossible to prove them guilty as much of the evidence may have faded by the time the culprits get to court.

Actually most of the implicated individuals might have fled the country!

I am calling upon this office to work swifter next time when they are presented with the report.

I would also like to take this opportunity of using this forum to extend my gratitude to our parliament which has pushed for these people to be taken to court.

Let the judiciary start working on bringing to book the people who are implicated in the new report that was presented earlier this month to avoid similar problems.

This would serve as a reminder to those officials that they are serving the taxpayer and learn to account for every penny they get from the government coffers.
