RWANDA have withdrawn their bid to host the next Afrobasket men’s championship, Times Sport can establish. The country submitted their bid in August and was odds on favorites to win due to Fiba-Africa’s zonal rotational policy.
However, the Secretary General of the national basketball federation (Ferwaba) Jean Lucien Mugabo yesterday revealed that inadequate modern gymnasiums had forced them to reconsider.
"We have good hotels and transport facilities but are still short when it comes to modern gymnasiums,” the official said before promising that, "We will bid for the 2015 edition because we hope that another modern gymnasium will have been built in Nyanza.”
Rwanda’s withdraw means that the race to host the 2013 edition is between Tunisia and Ivory Coast.
