In a bid to improve its public outreach, the Parliament intends to hold its second open day tomorrow.

Speaking to The New Times, the Parliamentary Director of Communication, Augustine Habimana, said that Members of Parliament found it necessary to invite the public and show them how and where they work from.

"The Parliamentary Open Day is one of the opportunities for Members of Parliament and the public to interact and people get to know how the parliament works,” Habimana said.

The first Open Day was held last year and drew hundreds of people from all walks of life.

According to Habimana, "this year’s Open Day is mainly targeting youth and women representatives from the district to the national level.”

He added that; "the reason we targeted these categories is that they reach out to the biggest percentage of the population. However, we will also be receiving any other person who will be interested in visiting the Parliament.”

The Parliamentary Open Day is held on an annual basis. Parliamentary sittings are also open to the public.
