Commissioner of  Police Gatete appointed UNAMID-Sudan Chief-of-Staff

A Cabinet meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame, Friday, appointed Ambassador Bill Kayonga as the new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community affairs to replace Robert Ssali.

At the same meeting, the Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harilimana, informed the cabinet meeting that Police Commissioner Cyprian Gatete was appointed ‘Chief of Staff’ in the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur-Sudan (UNAMID-SUDAN).

The Chief of Staff post is the third highest ranking post in the Mission and according to the Police Spokesman, Theos Badege, Gatete merited the post.

"Gatete headed the General Services unit in the Rwanda National Police, his appointment is a sign of the international community’s trust in Rwanda being capable of not only contributing to peacekeeping missions, but also holding leadership posts,” said Badege.

The same meeting also appointed Emmanuel Ndayisaba as the Executive Secretary of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities.

Other appointments made by the cabinet meeting include Board members of the Natural Resources Authority and Rwanda Local Development Support Fund.

The cabinet adopted the National Biodiversity policy and the Draft law Governing Biodiversity in Rwanda.

A draft law establishing cemeteries at various levels was also approved among other laws and decrees.
