After building a good deal of fame in the Tusker Project competitions, up and coming artiste Alpha Rwirangira has gone a notch higher by winning a "Museke Online African Music Award”.

The Awards which engaged many of the big names in African music were held on September 24, 2011, at the Afrotainment studios, in New York.

Rwanda’s son, Alpha, scooped the "Best East African Song” award, for his "Songa Mbere” single, in which he featured Tanzania’s AY.

He was not shy to beat some of the regional bigwigs listed in the category, like Ugandan songbird Julian Kanyomozi and ragamuffin Bebe Cool, plus Kenya’s P-Unit crew.

DJ Eric Soul, the other Rwandan in the competition for the best deejay’s honour was not that lucky, on the day.

Angelique Kidjo and Congolese Fally Ipupa, who also took home three awards, are some of the artists that performed at the show, according to the awards’ website.

Alpha was however not available for comment on his feat by press time.
