Local government leaders who participated in a leadership development course, facilitated by experts from Singapore, were yesterday awarded certificates.
The leaders who included governors, mayors, vice mayors and executive secretaries of districts, were offered skills on transformational leadership.
Speaking at the closure of the training, James Musoni, the Minister of Local Government, told the leaders to utilise the skills acquired in their daily duties.
"What we want is to see you as leaders make changes in your communities, based on what you trained in,” he told the local leaders.
Musoni commended the Singaporean trainers for their commitment in training the leaders.
Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, the Governor of the Eastern Province, said that the training would enable her to polish her leadership skills.
"We shall be relevant, current and supportive towards making a positive difference among the people we serve,” she asserted.
One of the trainers, Shahrill AJ, pointed out that the local leaders were enthusiastic during the training.
The key areas covered include leadership and management styles, stages of team development, key concepts of strategic and systems thinking, basic elements in resource management, budgetary reforms, learning and action planning.
The training was funded by the government through the National Decentralisation Implementation Secretariat (NDIS) in collaboration with development partners, namely the German International Cooperation and Swiss Cooperation.
